Every time I step out into Indian roads along with the many western friends and business associates who visit India. I am now used to a barrage of question relating to India, Indian Culture and life in India in general. However I remember when I was once traveling in my car with a very dear friend of mine Christian Wach Christian has traveled across the world and has experienced many world cultures.
So when someone like Christian asked me the question on the traffic in India. His question was simple “how come the cars and autos don’t crash into each other every minute ?” I thought for a minute for all the logical explanations and finally had to tell him something stupid “each of the vehicle is controlled by one of the 30 million gods!”
We did argued about this line for a bit but finally unanimously had to agree that many things in India which work are just not supposed to work! And the only rational explaination I have is nothing but ‘divine intervention’. Just take just about any public utility in India. Our railway system, our Airline System, our water supply , our electricity and think about it hard... With so many unmanned railway crossings and stories of drunk railway drivers and faulty signals... why don’t we have a rail crash every day ?? And with our over worked Air Traffic Controllers who have to manage hundreds of airplanes hovering on mumbai and delhi skys waiting for a landing slot...why are there no air crashes ? Looking at the state of our water pipes.. how come I am still not dead due to cholera....
Similarly our Police, our border security just about every system is broken. But somehow everything works...
Every Indian Hindu, Muslim, Christian or Sikh... has a great believe in one and only one system which is God. Some call this Ram, Some call this Allah and Some call it Jesus... and its finally some kind of divine power generated by the collective believe of over 1 billion people is what is keeping this country together.
You may argue what about the thousands of road accidents, the recent terror attacks and other incidence which still happen... just do the math and compare the percentage of the events which do occur..its really small and as many people in India believe it happened because it was “Gods Wish”....
Its no surprise that many people in India say that India is “Ram Bharose” (run by the gods)

Think about those who are run over by cars and die without any fault. And God alone knows why :)
In our over-populated country, all such things are taken for granted. The avaialable land cannot be stretched. Our programme to contain the population boom were sacrificed for the sake of populist sentiment. But dear friends, imagine the country in 1947 at the time of independence of the country and now. We have developed. We should have progressed at a much faster speed but there were constraints including the democracy. But is there any alternative to the dear democracy? In fact country-bashing has become a pasttime for all of us. What about the industrialists in the country who can spend millions and millions in their daughters’ marriages but do not think about the philanthrophist activities. We must also understand that the democracy is the costliest method of governance.

Your blog, dated 11. 12. 08., “India a country run by the Gods?’ is interesting. You seemed to be a bit pessimistic. It’s, indeed, what we find everyday. But do we ever be in a mood to perceive things beyond all those you have cited. Just follow what I intend to convey.
Without any introduction I would like to draw your kind attention to numerous discourses, songs and sermons of Ma-Mahajnan, expressed in a state of ‘Conscious Trance’. There are two things of great importance in her philosophy of life and they should be realized by every human being before one aims at the ultimate goal.
One is as Ma-Mahajnan, the matchless genius, proclaims in very many ways—There’s no rebirth. All that we have to do encompasses only one life. There is no scope for elevation or manipulation in the next birth, since it is simply out of question. It obviously goes against the purport of the Vedas and other parallel philosophies where rebirth appears.
The other is very striking, indeed. “The origin of everything—living and non-living, is nothing but something vaporous.” Mother’s realization doesn’t tally at all with Darwinism, which is now widely accepted. In the question of awakening our spirit of fighting against Terrorism Mother’s philosophy of life may help us to a great extent.
Ma-Mahajnan may be challenged in the light of her works—especially with ‘Unraveling of the Mystery of the Universe’. To begin with deep realization and philosophical thought-sequence, there are a few books in print like ‘On The Quest’ ‘Genius is Basically Knowledge’ and so many others simply unique even from literary point of view.
You conclude, ‘It will be interesting to see what you think about this....’ Now, dear friend, will this I have brought to light, likely to leave you in the lurch.

Unfortunately, you see my dear friends, none of you could highlight what I wrote little elaborately.
However, just take a serious note of the rest of our appeal which I didn’t bring to limelight or to your knowledge.
Taking these aspects into contemplation, we want to build up a Research Institute where scientific outlook will assess the philosophical ideas and religious ideals to provide future generations with proper knowledge in the attainment of peace and perfection in one life.
At the same time we look after the helpless women, too. Broadly, poverty alleviation, sustainable development, human rights and obligation of the judiciary are our sole concern with a view to coordination of material satisfaction-cum-spiritual striving.
