Just few weeks back at the Games Developers Conference in San Francisco. I made a presentation talking about the Indian Mobile Gaming Opportunity. While the rest of the world is all excited about the iPhone, I told the audiences that India has less than 600k iPhones for a 350 million mobile base that’s really small. And currently it dosen’t have any significant impact of application sales in India.
However with what I saw yesterday, I may have to take back my words. iPhone mania seems to have hit the streets of Mumbai and at places like Lamington Road & Hira Panna Market you can get CD’s full of iPhone apps and games along with all the software to install it on your iPhone for Rs.50 ($1). And the vendors seems to be doing great business. When I asked them from where are these CDs coming from all I got was a grin... and a mind your own business look... I was told such CDs are also available in Delhi and Bangalore ...
The CD’s is well packaged and even has its own cover which says “iPhone Mega Pack 2009″ and looks like many more packs are on the way. Like other pirated software once I checked the CD the source of most of the games looked Russian or Eastern European.
I don’t really know if this is good or bad news for the iPhone and the thousands of iPhone developers. But one thing is for sure if your product is the one being pirated its a sure hit!
What do you guys think about it??

It is good that you mustered moral corage to eat your own words. It means that your learning faculties work well, rather fast.
Second, you comment ”if your product is the one being pirated its (it is) a sure hit.” is appropriate. A few months ago, The New yorker had one-page story on this issue of piracy. The story also had the similar message. That is why the Microsoft seems to be interested in getting its ’window’ pirated and thus thwarting the attempts of the free ’linux’ to reach to the computer users.
Thirdly, India is not ahead in getting the mobile a household gadget, as per the latest figure, at the end of 2008, it also had 81 million internet users i.e. 8.1 per cent of the total population. As far as the percentage is concerned, it may look small but if we take the numbers in view, it is a big one.
I think this is good...although piracy si bad...many people are waking up to realizing that iPhone is not what the Indian Media made it to be - although i dont own an iphone myself....all my friends do and am dying to get one :D
Piracy is good.
When bollywood directors rip other language movies, and make tons of money out of it. Isnt it piracy

test juga..
It’s surprising to see apps being sold in such a manner. Talk of innovation. The depth of human enterprise can never be fathomed :) I’d also be curious about the apps on the CDs, whether they are rip-offs or cracked versions of popular apps.
